Oregon Sunstone and Mokume Ring

Oregon Sunstone and Mokume Ring

$300.00

This stunning ring features a natural pink sunstone mined in Plush, Oregon. It is set in a mottled band made from sterling silver and copper. This age old traditional style of metal forging is called mokume gane. It begins by stacking sterling silver and copper in layers and forging them to each other, then distressing and cutting into the layers. Then the metal stack is rolled and hammered out, leaving places where you can see through the layers of both metals. The inside of the band is sterling silver. This is a similar process to the making of Damascus steel. The copper oxidizes and darkens over time, making the contrast between the silver and copper even more striking!
Oregon is the only place in the world where Sunstones can be found with natural color in them. Sunstones from elsewhere have color added.
